Emerson Introduces Compact Flow Meter with Four-in-One Functionality

Emerson has launched the Rosemount™ 8800 Quad Vortex flow meter, a pioneering solution designed to meet rigorous safety standards in environments requiring Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS). This innovative flow meter, equipped with quadruple sensors and transmitters, is the industry’s first to comply with Safety Integrity Level (SIL) requirements.

Featuring multiple independent sensors within a compact, all-welded meter body, the Rosemount 8800 Quad Vortex flow meter ensures enhanced safety with built-in redundancies, all without introducing potential leak points. By consolidating four redundant flow meters into one unit, it reduces piping requirements significantly, eliminating the need for additional flanges and pipe runs.

Ideal for industries such as chemical processing, power generation, refining, and offshore oil and gas, where space constraints and safety are paramount, the Rosemount 8800 Quad Vortex flow meter offers a space-saving alternative to traditional flow measurement solutions. It effectively replaces multiple individual flow meters, streamlining installation and reducing costs.

Moreover, the flow meter’s design enables it to achieve SIL 3 capability, safeguarding against spurious trips through a two out of three (2oo3) voting method. This method ensures that at least two sensors must provide accurate readings for the process to continue, preventing unnecessary shutdowns due to isolated sensor issues.

Julie Valentine, Director of Flow Solutions for the Refining Industry at Emerson’s Automation Solutions business, highlights the positive feedback received from refining and chemical customers who have tested the new flow meter. She emphasizes its unique value proposition, simplifying the specification, purchase, and installation of SIS/SIL applications while minimizing piping and space requirements.
