A Versatile Approach to Design, Implement, and Manage Wellheads with Live Data Integration to the Control Room.
Context:
In the operations involving heavy oil and steam-assisted gravity drainage, maintaining efficient wellheads is crucial for optimal performance.
Client:
CNPC Fengcheng, China’s largest heavy oil field, boasts numerous wells extracting heavy and super heavy oil as well as bitumen.
Challenge:
Previously, temperature readings relied on manual methods using handheld infrared scanners, leading to considerable inaccuracies. With a vast array of wells spread across the field, promptly tracking temperature anomalies posed a significant challenge. The conventional process of gathering real-time data and monitoring temperature fluctuations necessitated intrusive methods, such as installing thermowells with temperature sensors. However, this approach entailed shutting down production lines individually, disrupting operations and potentially causing leakages.
Solution:
Emerson proposed the utilization of Rosemount™ 3144P HART temperature transmitters equipped with X-well™ technology. This innovative solution enabled CNPC Fengcheng to implement 592 new temperature measurements seamlessly, bypassing the need for thermowell designs, process interruptions, or additional leak points. The adoption of non-intrusive temperature measurement processes empowered Fengcheng Oil Field to monitor temperature variations in real time across its extensive well network. Subsequently, the solution expanded to encompass hundreds of temperature monitoring points throughout Fengcheng’s oil wells, enhancing operational efficiency and reliability.
